New versus Active Vulnerabilities: What is the difference?

When I see Vulnerabilities categorized as Active, this makes sense.  They are Open vulnerabilities that exist in the database.  But when I see vulnerabilities categorized as New, and they are separated from the Active vuls, then I am guessing they are vuls that have recently entered the database.  If that is true, how long is a vul classified as New?  If that is not the case, what is the criteria for classifying a vul as New?

Thank you.
