I have around 70+ assets for which 5 tags each need to be added
1. Is there a way to add a tag multiple assets at once ?
2. Is there a way to add multiple tags to single asset at once ?
Sure thing. The easiest is to create a dynamic tag that will auto apply based on a set of criteria. Hopefully you will have a unique way to identify these devices. https://community.qualys.com/docs/DOC-3673 I use things like OS, network range, and software installed for a few of mine.
Another way it to use the Asset Search feature in the Assets tab, instead of viewing the results like normal, you can use the results to create a new tag.
Finally a third option is to put the devices into their own asset group. Asset group automatically get tags created for them named whatever your asset group is called.
First, Thanks for the response.
The tags that I would be adding would be like this
Example 1 - based on the department
Tag1 - HR
Tag2 - Legal
Tag3 - Engineering
and so on
Example 2 - based on reachability
Tag1 - External
Tag2 - Internal
Example 3: Based on priority
Tag1 : High
Tag2 : Medium
Option 1: The host name or any other fields cannot be used to determine and assign the tags - Dynamic option cannot be used
Option 2: All HR systems (or Legal or engineering) will not have something in common that can be used to search for and assign tags - statically using the Asset Search feature cannot be used
Option 3: There will be more than 5 tags assigned to a host - We can create asset group by that name and add hosts to the asset groups which will add tags, but there will be many asset groups created in the system (there are 20+ tags in total - so we may need to create 20+ asset groups ) - well, if we delete the asset group after the tags are assigned, I guess the tags will also be removed ?
Please confirm and let me know if there are other options that can be used ?
I see. Other than your departments broken up into subnets, I'm not sure there is going to be an easy way to tag your devices dynamically other than manually applying a tag Are you using Cloud Agents? If so, you can auto apply tags to devices when install agents. You would need to set up different activation keys for each subset, but then when you installed it on those machines it would auto tag based on the activation key you used. Hopefully someone else has ideas. --Jason
it isn't based on subnets we well
I am not sure what could agents are - but we are not installing any agents on the assets
I cannot understand why the Qualys UI is so difficult to do such a simple thing. I just want to take some existing tags and add them to several IP addresses. With old Asset Management module you could drag and drop tags on assets. Why can't we just select a bunch of IPs/Assets and say assign these tags? I may be missing something obvious, but having to build queries and/or use API to do this seems overly complicated for such a simple task.
