Dynamic Tag using XML in Asset Search

Is it possible to set a dynamic tag to use Asset Search to look for other tags? I have tried to do this every way that I can think of and nothing has worked quite that way I would like or expect. I thought that since the header is present in an asset search that I could use "HOST_TAGS".

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<TAG_CRITERIA>

<HOST_TAGS>

  <SEARCH_TYPE>CONTAINS</SEARCH_TYPE>

  <SEARCH_TERM>Desktop</SEARCH_TERM>

</HOST_TAGS>

</TAG_CRITERIA>

That returns an error. If I change "HOST_TAGS" to "OPERATING_SYSTEM", it works fine.

I know that Groovy is an option, and I have had limited success with that, but only when searching for one tag. I also know that I can group multiple tags under one parent tag and the parent will show all of the assets under each individual child, but that isn't an option here.
