load balancers and cluster VIPs

Our environment is probably like most and we heavily leverage load balancing and clustering. To me it seems like scanning load balancers and/or cluster VIPs internally is of negilble value since their working ports redirect to another host anyway. Is there any value in scanning these devices if you are already scanning the devices that they are redirecting to?  My network admins are also leary of scanning these devices because they have many IPs bound to them and think that they could end up getting scanned on several interfaces at the same time which could negatively affect their performance.  Does anybody have any anecdotal evidence or thoughts to support scanning or not scanning these types of devices?
