I'm looking to monitor the uptime of a qualys appliance. I have the private ip address of the appliance but i need to how to interact with the appliance using snmp??
Can anyone help me on this issue?
The QualysGuard appliances have no services listening. Since it's a security appliance, it was designed as a custom hardened OS which is designed only to iniatiate sessions. Here is an excerpt from our Data Security Document:
The QualysGuard Scanner Appliance is designed as a client-only device with no persistent services or daemons listening to the network and with a specifically hardened operating system kernel designed to prevent shell-code and buffer overflow attacks.
Would a scanner appliance heart beat check alert not help you. You can set it under scanner appliance settings. There are ways to convert an email to SNMP trap.
The default heart-beat check is every 4 hours and I am not sure if there can be a back-office settings to modify it.
An SNMP based polling is un-available on the harderned box like Matt said.
In fact even if we had the SNMP port opened, there are no MIB's options.
